Transfer stations are designed to accept large loads of trash (more than 1 cubic yard). The trash is consolidated into tractor-trailers and hauled to a lined landfill. Recyclables and items banned from landfill disposal are not accepted at the transfer stations.

All loads entering the transfer stations must be covered to minimize the possibility of litter. Each vehicle is weighed before and after it is unloaded. Fees are based on weight. Minimum fees apply.

NOTE: Recycling opportunities are not available at the transfer stations.

There are two transfer stations in Chittenden County:

  Fees: $104.45 per ton, $35 minimum fee per vehicle (covers loads weighing up to 670 pounds); cash, local checks and credit cards are accepted (mattresses $15 each extra) **
