Residential Hazardous Waste Appointments

Before Your Appointment

  • Volume limit- Residents may bring up to 20 gallons per appointment.
    • Quantities are based on container size, not the volume of material remaining inside.
    • If you have 20-40 gallons, you may make two consecutive appointments on the same day.
    • If you have more than 40 gallons, please call the business line at 802-865-4663 to schedule an appointment.
  • Fuel containers- Containers holding 5+ gallons of fuel, including gasoline or diesel, must be left overnight. Small containers are returned during your visit.
    • All return containers left at the Depot must be clearly labeled with your name. They are ready for pick up the next business day. If you drop them off on Saturday, you may pick them up the following Wednesday.
    • This service is available only for
      • Red gasoline cans
      • Yellow diesel cans
      • Blue kerosene cans
    • Containers must be collected within one week of drop-off.
    • All buckets and non-approved containers are not included in this service and must be left at the Depot.
  • Possible fees: Fees may apply for certain special items or loads exceeding 20 gallons.
  • Package materials safely: We cannot accept mixed chemicals placed in trash bags; leaking, uncontained bottles; or wet or frozen chemicals and containers. Keep materials in their original containers whenever possible, place them upright in sturdy boxes or totes, and secure them to prevent spills or leaks during transport.
  • Depot staff may refuse improperly prepared or unsafe loads.

Business Hazardous Waste Guidelines

Businesses must make an appointment before bringing hazardous materials to the Environmental Depot.

  • Call 802-865-4663 or email ceg@cswd.net to request an appointment.
  • Provide your business name and a brief description of material, including type and approximate volume.
  • The phone line is not continuously staffed. Calls are triaged and will be returned within 72 hours.
