What You Need To Know

State law and CSWD’s Solid Waste Management Ordinance lay out specific waste management requirements:

  • Blue-Bin Recycling, Organics (food scraps and natural wood), Hazardous Waste, and many items we consider to be Special Materials must not be put in the trash
  • All trash containers must be paired with a recycling container
  • Businesses must have internal recycling programs or hauler service for all Blue-Bin Recycling materials

  • Any business that ships or markets more than two tons of Trash, Blue-Bin Recycling, and/or Organics to a facility not licensed by CSWD must report this information to us annually to help us track solid waste generation and recovery in Chittenden County.
