Summer Tours & Compost Workshops

Ever wonder what happens to your food scraps after they leave your home? Curious about composting but not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered!

This summer, CSWD is offering FREE Backyard Composting Workshops and behind-the-scenes tours of the Organics Recycling Facility, home of Green Mountain Compost.

Join us for a guided tour of our active commercial composting facility and see how food scraps and yard waste are transformed into nutrient-rich compost. You’ll learn how large-scale composting works, why keeping food waste out of the trash matters, and the reasoning behind compost guidelines.

Want to give composting a try? Our Backyard Composting Workshop is the perfect place to start. We’ll take you through a variety of home composting systems, including tumblers, single-bin and multi-bin setups, and more. You’ll learn how to build a DIY compost bin, create the perfect compost recipe, troubleshoot common issues, and use finished compost to improve your soil. Whether you are brand new to composting or looking to improve your current setup, you’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to compost successfully at home.
