CSWD’s 2025 Year in Review
2025 was a fantastic year for Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD) as we continued to fulfill our mission of reducing and managing waste in Chittenden County. From breaking ground on the construction of our new Materials Recycling Facility to expansive outreach efforts, we made meaningful strides in educating and engaging our community on recycling, composting, and waste reduction. Here’s a look back at our notable accomplishments!

328,554 customers
CSWD’s 6 Drop-Off Centers across Chittenden County, served 328,554 customers in 2025, providing recycling, composting, trash disposal, and special waste collection. If you were one of our many customers, thank you!
3,491 students
CSWD taught 3,491 students at 50 different schools with lessons on the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle), food waste reduction, composting, and hazardous waste management. We hosted 42 facility tours for students and conducted 107 educational sessions in schools.

41 Waste Warrior volunteers
CSWD supported 33 summer events (concerts, festivals, farmers’ markets, and more), where our 41 Waste Warrior volunteers dedicated 256 hours to educating event attendees on proper waste sorting and reduction.
290 businesses
CSWD worked with 290 businesses in Chittenden County to improve waste management practices. We tabled at 9 events including the Vermont Flower Show, UVM’s Zero Waste Fair, and a Vermont Green soccer game!

5 waste reduction grants awarded
In 2025, CSWD awarded grants to five organizations to support waste reduction projects across our community. From reusable cups that cut down plastic waste at the South End Get Down summer event series, to new waste bins for the Colchester School District, these projects inspired us and showed what’s possible when communities invest in sustainability.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of a great 2025. We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for us here at CSWD and the greater Chittenden County community!
